Biographical Information

Prof. Dr. Anja Weiß (M.A in psychology, Ph.D. in sociology) is junior professor for sociology with emphasis on macrosociology and transnational processes at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

She received her Dr. phil. at the Humboldt University Berlin (supervisors: Klaus Eder and Birgit Rommelspacher) on “Racist effects among anti-racist group. A structuralist approach to social inequality” (Wiesbaden: 2001). From 1999 to 2002 she did research in the project “Pioneers of mobility” in the Collaborative Research Center “Reflexive Modernization”. After 2002 she headed the project “Highly skilled migrants. The transnationalization of social inequality” funded by the German Research Association and then headed the international study group “Cultural Capital during migration” together with Arnd-Michael Nohl, Karin Schittenhelm and Oliver Schmidtke. 

Currently she is working on a transnational theory of social inequality, migration of the highly educated, racism and ethnic conflict.
